Germination

So I suppose that, with the creation of this blog, I am determined to pursue this project as far as I can. The project being, as you have probably guessed by finding your way here, a novel, provisionally titled Zooropa, which is based on the stories within numerous U2 songs, albums, and even the live setting.

I should say at the outset that I have not previously been published. I have always loved reading and writing, and the themes running throughout U2's music are far too tempting for a melding of all three to be ignored. Will my writing be good enough to do justice to the end vision, and be able to satisfy all of you, and even the band members? I can only hope and say yes, though I will leave it for you to decide based on samples and drafts that I plan on leaving at various stages through the writing process.

Of course, this being what can best be described as a U2 novel (rather than a novel incorporating references to U2's work), the approval and permission of the band is perhaps the most important factor of all in the future of this project. A letter to Principle Management has been written; and when a few draft chapters have been completed, it will be mailed off. With luck a positive response will be received, and fantasy can be turned to reality.

Before signing off this first entry I should perhaps explain why I've bothered to even create a blog for Zooropa. I am a fan of the openness of information, and I enjoy being able to trace an author's thought process: Why was this character cut? Why did he do this instead of that? Why was this changed? By creating a place where I am able to interact with you, the U2 fan, and hear your constructive criticisms and ideas, it will end up being the best for all of us. Though I won't share everything before completion, your thoughts and suggestions will invariably lead me to a create a stronger novel than would otherwise be created, and you will be able to perhaps understand the novel and it's underlying theme better. That is my hope anyways.

  3. Hi there just thought I'd let you know that your followers box isn't showing properly under Firefox 4. I think there should be a follow button somewhere? I had similar problems and playing with the box's colour solved it.
